FAQs

How do I prepare for my first Brazilian wax?

Prepping for a Brazilian wax is easy! First, be sure that your hair is about a ¼ inch long (the size of a grain of rice).

If it’s your first Brazilian wax, we ask that you avoid shaving at least two weeks before your appointment.

Finally, be sure that the area is properly cleaned and moisturized. You can even exfoliate 2-3 days before. A shower beforehand is ideal, but baby wipes are provided at the salon as well.

Can I still get a bikini or Brazilian wax on my period?

You definitely can! Just keep in mind that your bikini area is often more sensitive during this time, so you may experience more discomfort than usual. You can take an Advil or Ibuprofen 30 minutes prior to help with pain.

We do require that you wear a fresh tampon or menstrual cup.

Is waxing better than shaving?

No question about it! There are a lot of benefits to waxing your bikini area. Here are just a few of them:

  • A bikini wax lasts longer than shaving because it removes hair directly from the follicle instead of cutting it at the surface.

  • Hair takes longer to grow back when you wax and it grows back softer, thinner, and sparser with consistent waxing.

  • Shaving often causes a lot of irritation. Most commonly, people will experience ingrown hairs, razor bumps, and breakouts, whereas bikini waxing is much gentler on the skin, and even exfoliates it.

How long does a Brazilian wax last?

A Brazilian wax typically lasts 4-6 weeks, depending on how fast your hair grows back.

We recommend waxing every 4-6 weeks after your first wax for the best results. This will ensure that hair grows back slower and thinner each time. As you wax more, you'll need fewer appointments due to slow regrowth.

Can I still get waxed if I'm pregnant?

Heck yes! You may experience more skin sensitivity and faster hair regrowth due to the hormonal changes your body's going through.

It's always a good idea to double check with your doctor during the last two months of your pregnancy.

How painful is a Brazilian wax?

How much a Brazilian wax hurts depends on your pain tolerance, hair type, and whether it's your first time waxing. Most people experience some discomfort, especially during the first Brazilian wax, but it's usually brief and manageable. The pain tends to decrease with regular waxing as the hair becomes finer and easier to remove.

Choosing an experienced esthetician, following pre-wax and post-wax care tips, and avoiding shaving in between sessions can significantly reduce Brazilian wax pain. While it’s not completely painless, many find the smooth results worth the temporary discomfort.

How long does a Brazilian wax last?

A Brazilian wax typically lasts between 4 to 6 weeks, depending on your hair growth cycle and how regularly you wax. Most people start to see regrowth around the 2 to 3 week mark, but the hair is usually finer and softer.

With consistent waxing, hair tends to grow back more slowly and sparsely, meaning results can last even longer over time.

For best results, it's recommended to schedule your Brazilian wax appointments every 4 to 6 weeks. Factors like hormones, hair texture, and aftercare can also affect how long your wax lasts.

How long should my hair be to wax?

For the best results, hair should be about a 1/4 inch long, which is about the size of a grain of rice.

Is there an age restriction for waxing?

Yes, the minimum age requirement for Brazilian waxing at Waxonomy is 18 years old.

However, we can do as young at 16 with parent consent. If you're a teen or parent considering a Brazilian wax, it's best to check with the salon ahead of time.

Is it safe to get a wax if I'm sunburned?

We love your skin, and we want to treat it right, so we don’t perform waxing services on sunburned, irritated, or otherwise unhappy skin. It wouldn’t feel good (for you or us).

Once your skin's back to its beautiful, healthy self, we’ll be ready when you are, you can book your new wax appointment here.
